Frequently Asked Questions

What's Alantu?

The first crowd-processing mobile solution powered by a gamified community.

An app that allows you to collaborate in multiple research and development projects (ie: astronomy, climate, physics, medicine and others) by simply contributing your non usage processing power.

Many problems require a vast amount of computing power and Alantu enables you to include your Android device as part of a distributed computing system when you are not actively using your Android device.

How do I get started?

Search for Alantu at the Google Play Store, and install it. When it launches, you can choose your first mission to start contributing processing capacity and make progress on the game.

Processing will only happen when your smartphone is suspended, connected to Wi-Fi and plugged to an external power source (e.g., wireless chargers, wall socket and personal computers).

What projects can I support?

With Alantu, players can help many researchers in different fields. You can choose to help to explore the farthest reaches of universe and search for intelligent life or you can collaborate in crunching the extensive climate change data or, if you want, you can help to find improvements for cancer treatment, AIDS and Alzheimer's disease.

Alantu features a selection of volunteer computing projects thanks to BOINC (Open Community Platform).

What are the technical requirements?

If your Android device is compatible and meets the following requirements, you can install Alantu:

  • Android 4.1 or above.
  • 1.5GHz Dual Core, or 1GHz Quad core.
  • 1GB RAM

There are currently some technical and legal barriers to doing volunteer computing on iOS. It's possible that in the future these issues can be overcome.

Will my device get overheated?

Alantu will stop processing before your phone reaches the maximun temperature allowed ( 40ºC / 104ºF ).

Will my battery life be affected?

Alantu will only be actively contributing when your device is plugged into an external power source and your battery is full (100%) charge (default setting). Your device’s battery life will not be significantly affected. Furthermore, your recharging time will not be significantly extended.

Will participating consume minutes in my mobile data plan?

No. Alantu will only be transferring data when your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Is Alantu safe to use?

The email and password transmission between the project server and your phone is established through HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure).

The app and the programs it runs only use the CPU to run calculations for the supported projects and will not access any other data on your device.

Will it affect my phone’s performance?

Absolutely not, Alantu will only use your CPU when you are not actively using your device.

Will Alantu work if my device doesn’t have a battery?
